Votary uses a unique blend of three Australian plum extracts, which are packed with great benefits for your skin.

What is Terminalia Ferdinandiana (Kakadu Plum) Fruit Extract?

The Kakadu Plum (Latin name Terminalia Ferdinandiana), also known as gubinge, billygoat plum, or munraga, is a fruit native to Northern Australia. These fruits are recognisable by their distinctive almond-like shape.
Traditionally, Indigenous Australian people have used Kakadu plum for its antiseptic properties and as a soothing balm.

What is Podocarpus Elatus (Plum Pine) Fruit Extract?

Podocarpus Elatus, also known as plum pine, Illawarra plum, daalgall or gidneywallums, is native to the sub-tropical Eastern part of Australia. The fruit has a plum-pine flavour and was traditionally eaten by Indigenous Australians. Illawarra plum is a great skincare ingredient because it has a super high content of anthocyanins (cyanidin 3-glucoside & pelargonidin
3-glucoside) and a really high antioxidant capacity.

What is Pleiogynium Timorense (Burdekin Plum) Fruit Extract?

The Burdekin plum grows in the North-eastern part of Australia. The tree produces large, black, pumpkin-shaped fruits. It was originally referred to by Indigenous Australians as ‘Noongi’ or ‘Rancooran’.
Burdekin plum extract also has a high concentration of the anthocyanin cyanidin 3-glucoside. It’s also packed with vitamin C. The combination of these antioxidant compounds helps to slow down the rate of free radical damages to skin.

What are the benefits of these extracts for your skin?

These plum extracts are particularly great for skin because it has such a high concentration of vitamin C. Vitamin C plays a crucial role in promoting the synthesis of new collagen in the skin, which is essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. They are also rich in antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E, which protect skin cells from damage caused by free radicals. It even contains gallic acid, known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Long-term exposure to free radicals from things like UV radiation, pollution, and stress can lead to oxidative damage within the skin. This impairs the skin's barrier function, reducing its ability to retain moisture, and accelerates the ageing process. This blend of plum extracts helps to counteract these effects by scavenging free radicals, thereby protecting the skin’s barrier and improving your skin’s integrity.

These three plum fruit extracts also naturally contain hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a hydrating agent that is essential for maintaining skin hydration and the structure of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Free radicals can decrease the levels of HA, leading to dryness and a loss of elasticity in the skin. These extracts can help boost the synthesis of pro-collagen I and fibronectin, which are crucial components of the dermis (the inner layer of the skin). This helps to reduce the signs of ageing and limit the appearance of wrinkles, as well as improving skin hydration.
