Dehydration is the number one cause of skin problems I see in clients and friends. In my own skin too! Dry, parched skin can cause blemishes, fine lines and uneven skin tone. The main culprits when it comes to dehydration are cold weather (and coming into blasting central heating), air conditioning, diet, stress and the wrong products (with foaming cleansers and mineral oils high up on this list).
The good news is, it couldn’t be easier to solve. Starting an oil cleanse routine is a great first step in combatting dehydrated skin. I’m on a mission to persuade everyone to switch to natural oil. Step away from foaming cleansers and man-made mineral oils and I promise your skin will be grateful.
Another really simple, practical tip is to immediately apply your favourite Votary Facial Oil after cleansing (or indeed, after any contact with water). That way, you seal in the moisture. I find when damp skin is allowed to air dry it can get really dry and irritated.
Our Rose Maroc and Sandalwood oil is perfect for dehydrated skin. It contains Avocado Oil which is a deliciously nourishing oil. It has a high concentration of anti-inflammatory oleic acid – making it a great choice for dry and irritated skin. It’s really thick, which means it layers on the skin and protects it for longer than other oils. I use it as a night oil, but turn to it quite often on winter mornings too.
We’d love to hear your skin stories. Please do get in touch anytime for advice on how to choose the right Votary product for you.
