Cold-pressed skincare sits happily alongside raw food. There’s been a buzz around raw, unrefined, whole food for a while, and thinking about skincare in the same way can be helpful in ensuring that what you put in and on your body is all good.
Raw food has become a kind of shorthand for talking about ingredients that are packed with natural goodness; superfoods like vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds which in their uncooked state are much richer in enzymes, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. So how are the principles of raw food applied to skincare?
Let me explain…
Cold-pressed, whole, unrefined and raw are commonly used to describe food. Natural skincare can be talked about in the same way as raw food, as long as it fulfils important criteria.
The first involves ingredients. Natural skincare is made with plant based ingredients and botanical actives. The ingredients are grown in soil, and are fresh at the point of formulation.
The second involves heat. Skincare in which no ingredients are heated beyond room temperature at any stage of production is called cold-pressed. Cold-pressing is particularly good because it preserves the pure potency of the natural, active ingredients.
I’m passionate about including ingredients in Votary formulas which will feed and nourish your skin. I believe in the power of pure plant ingredients to give you beautiful, healthy, resilient skin. Cold-pressing rather than heating these ingredients allows them to work more effectively. Using Votary skincare can be part of a holistic approach to beauty from the inside out.
I am determined to give #Votarists the ultimate #GreenCleanBeautyRoutine. So, all of our plant oils – with the exception of rice bran oil which is extracted, and camillia leaf and calendula which are infused – are cold-pressed.
I am hugely proud of what Votary contains; it really is all good. Our Super Seed range is a particular star. Fragrance- free, and packed with the goodness of twenty different cold-pressed seed oils, it contains hero superfood ingredients like blueberry, broccoli, and chia. It works brilliantly to calm, soothe and nourish skin which is stressed, sensitised, fragile or dehydrated. It transforms unhappy skin.
Our original Rose Geranium and Apricot Cleansing Oil is rich in nourishing apricot and jojoba oils. Jasmine and Calendula facial oil is powered by deeply hydrating rosehip and grapeseed oil. Our Intense Night Oil is rich in avocado and tomato seed oils. All of it is cold-pressed to conserve maximum goodness and impact.
Feeding and nourishing your skin with cold -pressed skincare is the best way to a happy, healthy, nourished complexion. Your skin will thank you for it.
Love, Arabella x
