Dry or dehydrated skin?
Deciding whether your skin is dry or dehydrated can be confusing, especially as dry and dehydrated skin look and feel the same. The reality is simpler.
Dehydrated skin lacks water. Solutions can include drinking more water, using products which contain hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, and using facial oils or creams as a final layer to really lock-in moisture and hydration. Dry skin is generally more of a structural problem. Dry skin lacks lipids (oils) which are crucial to strong, healthy skin. Your skin is meant to contain lipids. Lipids are like the soft mortar which holds the skin’s surface together. They add fullness, plumpness and resilience. Lipids help to build the barrier of the skin’s mantle. If the epidermal wall is strong, it’s also better at retaining water. That’s why all dry skin ultimately becomes dehydrated too, which is why you really don’t need to obsess about in which category your skin belongs. The answer is almost always more lipids.
The crucial and transforming thing is to boost your lipid (oil) levels. Whether your skin has become drier as you age, or because of hormonal changes like menopause or pregnancy, or whether it’s the result of extreme weather or central heating, the solution is more lipids. They are the basis of of our entire Super Seed range which is lipid-rich to feed and nourish dry and dehydrated skin.
Super Seed Cleansing Oil is brilliant at gently and deeply cleansing your skin without leaving it dry and tight. Super Seed Facial Oil works to boost lipid levels and help feed the skin’s mantle. Super Boost Night Drops contain strawberry seed oil to repair and reboot lipid levels. Super Seed Nutrient Cream is loaded with hydrating hyaluronic acid to help layer and lock-in moisture for fuller, firmer skin.
And, our new Super Seed Serum combines exactly the right blend of lipids and active ingredients to tackle all the issues dry and dehydrated skin faces. Broccoli Seed Oil is super-rich in antioxidants and boosts lipid levels. It works cleverly with camosine and sacha inchi peptides to strengthen the skin’s barrier mechanism and restore it to resilient health. The skin’s ability to retain water is improved and it is able to deal with irritants and allergens more effectively. Redness is calmed and soothed, and skin looks and feels soft, supple, and comfortable. Our new Super Seed Serum – used as part of the Votary Super Seed range – will make your dry or dehydrated skin feel stronger, smoother and happier.
Nourishing your lipid levels from the inside out is also crucial. Super Seed Nutritional Supplement is loaded with lipid-rich goodness to help your skin build a stronger, more supple and flexible mantle.
Whether your skin is dry or dehydrated, the answer is to feed it back to healthy resilience. I couldn’t love our Super Seed range and lipids more.
